Philippines’ Princess Mary Superal is thrilled to have secured her entry into the Hana Financial Group Singapore Women’s Open which tees off at the Tanan Merah Country Club next week.
The 26-year-old Filipino golfer is relishing the opportunity for top-class competition, and the timely sponsor’s invitation to the second edition of the tournament, which tees off from March 7-10, couldn’t be more welcomed.
This S$1.1 million event, serving as the season-opener for the Korean Ladies Professional Golf Association Tour (KLPGA Tour), is jointly sanctioned by the Singapore Golf Association (SGA) and is a part of the Ladies Asian Tour (LAT) Series.
Superal participated in the inaugural edition in December 2022, finishing tied for 61st place.
However, Superal boasts a significant achievement as a one-time LAT Series champion, triumphing at the 2022 Simone Asia Pacific Cup in Jakarta.
During this victory, she outshone LPGA Tour stalwarts such as New Zealand’s Lydia Ko and South Korea’s Ryu So-yeon, securing her first-ever international title.
With a formidable field featuring the likes of Thai sensation Patty Tavatanakit, and KLPGA Tour stars such as defending champion Park Ji-young, KLPGA Money List winner Lee Ye-won, and Rookie of the Year Kim Min-byeol, Superal aims to seize this golden opportunity.
“I’m thrilled to be competing in this event once again. It’s an excellent opportunity for me to study other players’ strategies and enhance my gameplay,” said Superal, who predominantly competes in Japan.
“I’m particularly eager to learn from Patty, who has been in outstanding form lately!
“My goal is to participate in as many prestigious Tour events as possible. While I’ve been focusing on our local tour and the Japan tour, I’m also considering trying out for the LPGA Q school this year.”
Despite facing challenges last season, making only eight cuts out of 19 starts, Superal achieved a commendable tied-fifth position at the Hanasaka Ladies Yanmar Golf Tournament on the JLPGA’s second-tier Jump Tour.
“I struggled with my long game last year, so that’s where I’ve been directing my focus in recent months,” remarked Superal.
